Kitchen Tip: Freeze and Steam Veggies

I really love Ziploc's Zip and Steam Bags because they make storing and cooking fresh veggies so easy. Almost any type of vegetable can be placed inside, such as potatoes, carrots, green beans, etc; and then frozen. Simply pull out the bag and place into the microwave for a few minutes and you have your very own steam fresh vegetables that are much cheaper than those big brands.

Take the Patty Pan Squash, or other vegetable, cut off the brown parts and slice it in half and then into thin slices. Place squash in the Zip And Steam Ziploc Bag. Add salt, pepper, butter (if desired) and seal; freeze or cook.

To cook immediately or to cook after freezing, place bag into microwave and cook for 4-6 minutes.

Note: After several months, these bags did not hold up all that well in the freezer. Several of them cracked when I tried to reheat the veggies. I am not very careful when I put my items in the freezer, so it could be operator error, but I still wanted to put the info out there.
