Girl Days

Do you ever have those blah days. You know the ones us girls get? It sure does make eating right hard, when your hormones are out of whack around that time. I used to think I was the only crazy person who grew horns and lost all self control with food, but I have come to realize this is pretty normal for most women. Well, today has been one of those days. One where I should have stayed in bed and enjoyed the blessings of being able to not do anything if I don't want to. But, I decided to go to the gym and do body bar. I am glad I did. After I came home, I had planned on laying down and trying to relax, but guess what? Nope. Did not happen. I managed to waste hours doing well...nothing really. Luckily, the horns aren't out - not yet anyway- but I do feel very fatigued. My muscles are sore and I just want everyone to be quiet. UGH. My kids are out of school for Labor Day weekend and that would be great if I were doing something fun. But, alas, we will be hanging out at home. No fun BBQ's or parties. I guess I am not much fun without my husband around - I can't seem to figure that part out. Ever since he left for the sand pit, I have pretty much been out of the social bbq scene. I think I will make a note of this, so when he gets back I can invite my husbandless friends over for holiday bbq's. Enough babble for today. Until next time.

Save $Money$ on Workout Clothes

Do you love to save money? I do. My favorite place to shop for workout clothes is Marshall's. They always have my favorite brands, Balance Collection by Marika, and Marika, for super cheap. The quality is much better than your local discount store and the prices are usually cheaper than what you would pay there as well. I was able to get all this...

for around $60. The sports bras were 12.99. Two pairs of shorts were $7.99. And one pair of shorts was 12.99, but do you see what the MSRP was??? They were originally $68. That is a huge savings! I have even found Mizuno Running shoes for $33. They were originally over $100! Crazy savings! So, if you haven't perused the isles of Marshall's, go check them out. Soon they will start clearing summer workout gear and you can get it EVEN cheaper!

Happy Shopping!

Body Beast Chili Recipe

Beast Chili

A great mentor shared this Chili recipe with me. It is so delicious.  It became a staple in her home and it has quickly become one of my favorites as well. My kids love it too!  I top mine with a tablespoon of greek yogurt, fresh avocado and a little Mexican cheese.
*I did modify this recipe a little. I added a can of small diced tomatoes, did not drain the beans. Added both kidney and chili beans and only used 1 lb of turkey.

Ingredients
  1 tsp olive oil
1.5 lbs of lean ground turkey meat
 1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped or 1 tsp prepares chopped garlic
Small can diced tomatoes
 1.5 tsp ground cumin
1 tbsp chili powder
 1/2 tsp sea salt
 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Can of Chili beans or ranch style beans
1 can kidney beans or pinto, not drained (get low sodium)
1  15 oz can tomato sauce or you can add a large 29 oz can.

How To Make It
1. Heat oil in large sauce pan over medium heat. Add Turkey, onion, bell pepper, and garlic
2. Cook stirring occasionally, for 10 min or until turkey is no longer pink.
3. Add cumin, chili powder, salt and cayenne pepper. Stir and cook for 1 min
4. Stir in kidney beans and tomato sauce, bring to boil
5. Reduce heat to low and gently simmer, stir occasionally for 15-20 min or until thickened
6. Serve warm and top with 1/4 avocado and fresh diced tomatoes (not included in caloric numbers)

Juicy Flavorful Healthy Turkey Burgers with Gluten Free Modifications

Want a juicy burger that is not full of fat and grease, but still tastes amazing? Look no further. I have made cooked these several times and they are so good. I have made them with gluten free bread crumbs, panko bread crumbs and regular whole wheat bread crumbs.  My kids love these burgers, as do I! My mouth is watering just typing this up! We like to eat our burgers on English muffins or bagel thins.

Juicy Flavorful Healthy Turkey Burgers

Yields 5 thick burgers
Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs lean ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup gluten free bread crumbs (panko, or regular bread crumbs work too)
  • 1 Tbsp Braggs liquid Amino's, or Worcestershire Sauce
  • pinch salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder or 1 clove of garlic grated or chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp coarse ground black pepper or a few twists of fresh pepper
  • 1/4 tsp rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
Directions:

Place turkey, 1/3 cup bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and spices. Use hands to combine. Shape into 5 patties. Grill outside on a hot grill until the internal temperature reaches 160 - 165*. Serve on a hamburger bun, bagel thin, or English muffin with a little ketchup and mustard. You can even top it off with some fresh spinach, tomato and onion.

If you use a 3 lb package of turkey, double the recipe and add a little more bread crumbs. Yields approx 13 - 4oz burgers

These freeze and reheat well in the microwave. Serve with 1/2 cup barley and steamed broccoli for a quick and easy meal.
